Could BYU Really Land the #1 Recruit in 2025?

We have talked about AJ Dybantsa before. He is the #1 basketball recruit in the 2025 class. AJ just moved to Hurricane, Utah to play his senior year at the Utah Prep, a choice by his dad after visiting Utah. He has been in contact with BYU and taken an unofficial visit to Provo as well. AJ just finished a tournament this last weekend in which most of the top talent in the 2025 class played. Before this tournament started, AJ said that he would narrow down his top schools. We have now received some more up to date info on that.

AJ Dybantsa Update

According to this article, that is Kentucky focused, they go into detail about AJ Dybantsa and what he told On3’s Joe Tipton. AJ will be cutting down his schools to 7 later this month and he will visit 5 or 6 of those schools going into the fall. A decision then will come in the late winter or early spring. He also said that his dad would most likely pick the schools that he visits since his dad has his best interest. I like those odds. Especially since AJ’s dad wanted to move him to Utah and visited BYU just him and his wife, without AJ, to check out BYU.

After AJ took an unofficial visit to BYU earlier this year, this is what he had to say, โ€œ(The visit) was good. Thatโ€™s when I took my Utah Prep visit. Since I was out there, I just took an unofficial over there,โ€ he said. โ€œ(Coach Kevin Young) wants to get me back on an official and take me through the whole visit profile and what he has in store for me. (BYU) is three hours away from Utah Prep so itโ€™s kind of far but it was good, seeing the campus, the overall view, the gyms and everything.โ€

It will be fun to get him on an official visit! BYU is most likely in his top 7 according to Joe Tipton but that will become official later this month.

Wait BYU is in the Lead?!

Gary Parrish, from CBS Sports, went on the podcast called Eye on Basketball to give an update on AJ since he was at the tournament. He was talking and giving an update based on AJ Dybantsa about his play and what he heard about what schools are in play. He said that he asked a couple of coaches around the tournament and he wanted to attach a staff to AJ and he asked who would be the team to beat for AJ? The coach answered, BYU, immediately. WHAT! Coaches are saying that BYU is the team to beat for AJ Dybantsa. That is amazing!

Here is the video of the section where Gary Parrish is talking about AJ Dybantsa. The clip happens right at about he 48:30 mark so start a little before that. If you want to hear all about AJ you can start at about the 39 minute mark.

The guys on the podcast also talk about how Cooper Flag, who is going to Duke this year, and is one of the top players, could be really good and the 1st pick in the next NBA draft. They said that AJ Dybantsa is a better overall pure scorer. He can basically score from anywhere! He would be generational!

BYU Lands Their Last Scholarship Player

BYU landed Khadim Mboup out of NBA Academy Africa. He also had an offer from SMU. Mboup is 6’9, 220 pounds. He is only 17 years old right now but will turn 18 in September. Mboup is a long, freak athlete, and has the physical tools to be a great player. He has a huge work ethic and is always the first one in and last one to leave.

BYU was able to land him as he had a connection with new current assistant coach Will Voigt, who coached him in Africa. My guess is that he wont see much time this upcoming year and will be a huge developmental piece. But he is the type of player that this BYU staff is going after. They are wanting athletic, long players, who can play any position.
